Part memoir, part manifesto - Boyslut is a delicious read in which author and sex columnist Zachary Zane examines his journey of self discovery as a bisexual man.
When my partner recommended this book, I originally thought I wouldn't enjoy it. So much of the gay/bi experience is centered around sex I sometimes feel burnt out on it. Now, I don't think that's such a bad thing. The book challenged a lot of beliefs I had about sex I never stopped to consider before.
Much of the book centers around releasing oneself from feelings of shame or guilt around sex, feelings I've often struggled with. Throughout, Zach challenges narratives around sex and posits how having healthier discussions about sex leads to healthier mindsets (not to mention better sex).
Importantly, I believe, the book does this in a way which doesn't feel preachy. Instead, it is a celebration of Zach's own journey. One you're excited for him about, and which feels accessible to the reader as well.
Reading Boyslut has empowered me to open up to myself the things I like and don't like in a way I didn't know was possible and I'm excited to see where that journey takes me.
If I could put the book on a list of "required" reading for LGBTs I definitely would, I think many people would benefit from reading it.
