Newbie Q: Any 'best' pool or differences?

I've just started NyanCoin mining a few minutes ago, after far too long trying to figure out mining and connection problems.
I'm currently using nyan.pool.mn.
What I can't understand, is differences between pools, apart from the percentage that they take. Could anyone explain it to me or, recommend pools with reasons why?
If it makes any difference, I'm currently seeing approximately 296Khash/s
