Are FTW3/Strix historically quiet? (or at least can you make them quiet?)

I'm an MSI guy and I like their cards because they're really silent compared to the competition.
I never tried a FTW3 or Asus's strix and I'm wondering if I should give them a try.
I'm worried about noise though. are they loud cards historically? can I at least play with the fan curve to make them warmer but quieter like msi?
