Good timing for buying GTX 980 / ti?

Hi folks,
Per Nvidia's launch on the 1070 & 1080 I noticed that the markets are flooding with second hand 970, 980 and ti. Mostly Gigabytes.
Would it be a stupid idea to go for the 980 or ti? For around $400 (new price $613) I can grab a second hand 980 and $460 (new price $750) for the TI. That is a significant drop!
