I just started my third year of my BScN program (Canada). I've debated a lot of areas in nursing but I keep finding myself drawn to community nursing. The problem with this is that there's so many areas in that specific field to work in. My main interest is in women's health and in teaching/informing (not only in that area). I've done my share of hospital placements and I really prefer a different kind of environment and involvement next to being at the bedside.
I'm not sure how all other nursing programs are structured, but I have a year to decide where to do my final (full time) placement for my fourth year and I'm having great difficulty with it.
So what I'd like to find out is if we have any community nurses here, what you do, how you decided to get into that kind of nursing and what you love about it.
tl;dr Community nurse? What do you do? How'd you get into it? What do you like about it? Recommendations on how to get into it?
