Mepilex for open wounds?
Post Body
I’m working on a unit that uses mepilex on open wounds. Can anyone help me understand that logic? It’s not a special kind of mepilex… it’s the regular, self-adhering mepilex. They use it directly on the wound (pressure wound, skin tear, surgical wound, etc). No non or low adherence over the wound first. That’s what the wound care nurses do, so it’s not just a mistake by the floor nurses. We’re also required to peel back the dressing twice a day for wound checks, which I would think interferes with the healing process since we’re ripping at the skin twice a day. Does anyone have any insight on the use of these? I don’t understand why we use those dressings for open wounds? That was explicitly a big no, no at my previous facility.
