I’ve been a nurse for twelve years. And twice during that time I’ve had to use the Heimlich maneuver. The second time was today. On my two year old niece. Scary shit. But I was calm in the moment. And it went so smoothly. She coughed up the piece of food and was fine. I’ve worked trauma, med/surg, ICU , and mental health. And today was probably the most important day for me. To know that my training saved the life of someone so young, who I love dearly. I’m so grateful for my schooling, it was worth all the hard work. I especially felt that today.
