This evening we had some friends from Colorado passing through and we let them crash at our place. They wanted Gumbo (in Louisiana), so while I was cooking their 19 yo daughter complained about feeling short of breath with chest pain. I checked her pulse and could tell it was way over 120. She didn’t register on my BP machine but showed a pulse of 224 on my pulse ox. I t told her to take a deep breath and bare down like she needed to poop. She did for about 15 sec and her pulse dropped to 76 and she reported feeling immediately better. She ate two bowls of gumbo and drank a big glass of water. I monitored her while we watched Galaxy Quest and she still feels fine with a good BP, O2, and pulse. I have not been a practicing nurse in over 5 years after having a stroke. I’m just glad I’m still useful.
