I'm a 3rd year RN and started off my career in Psychiatric Health. I started at an acute care facility that was in-patient and got the initial experience that everyone wants. After two years and some change, I moved to TX to be with my girlfriend and did a transfer to a Residental facility also for Psychiatric patients.
I've only been at this new job for a very short time (not even two months) and I already hate it. Between work drama, lack of training before throwing me to the wolves, aggravating patients, and 98% paper charting, I knew I had to start looking elsewhere. I was facing burnout. I was so unhappy already. I found myself crying about the job and tossing and turning the night before my first day back. (My first red flag was being on the unit alone only after only 3 days of training. The second was now they want me to train to become Charge nurse.)
On a whim, I typed in Registered Nurse for job title and Remote for Location on Indeed and just went down the list applying for anything that I remotely fit the criteria for.
Just before Thanksgiving, I interviewed.
Today, they called me back with a job offer! It's a pay increase, it's 10-7 M-F, no nights, no weekends, 8 paid holidays that don't pull from my PTO bank, and other benefits.
I got the job to be a Telephone Triage and Care Advocate for Behavioral Health patients for an insurance company!
I'm sure it's going to come with its own bullshit, but I think I'll be happier and I'm ready to leave bedside nursing in the dust!
If you're thinking about trying Work from Home before possibly leaving nursing all together, just get your name out there, you never know!
Do you work from home? Do you love it/hate it? What are your biggest struggles with WFH?
