Hey all! Seeking some advice on job options. Currently working ICU FT (first nursing job ever as a second career, 1 year 9 months) and IR PRN (been there for 8 months).
I’m going FT with IR next month for better schedule and closer commute, and would like to maintain a PRN. The current ICU offered me a PRN position and I interviewed in a PACU, where they extended an offer as well. I’m so torn on which to take.
Background on the new FT - the IR position will be only weekdays, no holidays. Some weeks I’ll work 4x9, other weeks 3x12 (which will cover my call requirement that goes to 7pm).
ICU offer >>> -2 shifts a calendar month minimum -31.30 base hourly pay with diff for weekends and nights (no requirements to switch between days/nights like FT) (I think diff is $5 nights weekdays, $5 or 10 days weekends, $15 nights weekends hourly - I would not take any nights) -First to float >>> new addition to the hospital has been floating nurses there like mad and it’s the wild Wild West of short staff and short supplies so big chance of floating and while I don’t mind, those shifts have really wrecked me -50 min commute, 15 min bus ride if picking up during the week OR park on campus if picking up on weekend
PACU offer >>> -1 shift biweekly (per pay period) minimum -34.38 hourly pay -during week days only -willing to take me with no PACU experience and orient as long as I need -50 min commute, parking on campus
Long term goal as of right now is to travel nurse. My partner and I are building out a van and have wanted to live a nomadic life for a while. We plan on moving in a year so I know I could always find a FT ICU position that doesn’t require switching between days and nights (my biggest struggle) when I move.
