Worried I’ll be fired

Post Body

I had a busy shift today and made a lot of little mistakes in the last couple hours. I’m so scared I’ll get fired! Here’s what happened.

  1. Patient had critical lab result. I did not get a call from lab. It resulted sometime between 5:45-7:00 and I saw it at 7:00 when I checked during report. However the computer said it resulted at 4:55. It absolutely did not because I checked the results at around 5:45 when I gave the patient a scheduled med and the results said “pending.” So I’m so worried I’ll get in trouble because I didn’t notify the provider. The oncoming nurse said they would.

  2. I had a med scheduled at 6:30. All six of my patients had meds due between 5:30 and 6:30 so I was busy af during this time. I went to pull this med around 7 and it wasn’t in the Pyxis. I called pharmacy, they said they’d send it up. I give report on all my patients. Recheck at 7:30, they never sent it. I documented med not given due to missing med at around 7:45.

  3. I had a patient come up from procedure around 4:00. They were admitted directly from a scheduled outpatient procedure. They had meds that were scheduled for 12:30 that were overdue. I automatically assumed they were OR meds. Oncoming nurse pointed out they were not OR meds and I should’ve given them as soon as they got to the floor.

I fucked up so much today. Do any of you think I’ll get fired?? I’m a new nurse, six months experience in medical surgical.
