Hi friends. This may be a bit off topic but I was discussing this book in another thread and thought you may find this short read interesting.
It gives a brief history of the “wise women” who developed herbal remedies many of which still have significance today (digitalis, ergot, belladonna). These people were early nurses, midwives, and pharmacists and this book details their practices and how these practices, for some time, became tied to witchcraft in medieval Europe. It also discusses the rise of male medical profession in 19th century America, which is where the physician profession began here.
