So, I work in a rich neighborhood in a fancy hospital that has enough money to buy million dollar robots to drop medications off to us. There is a whole ass Starbucks. The hospital is small, only about 350 beds, we provide all the works but by no means is this a huge university teaching hospital. They pay less than average compared to other area hospitals, but I do have to give them credit for my ratio never being more than 4:1.. never have to work short.

They want all employees to pay 10 dollars a month to park on the exposed top floor of the parking garage, or we can park for free on the total opposite end of campus in a satellite lot. They do not offer a shuttle, since the campus is all continguous they don't feel it's justified. The top floor of the parking garage is the 5th floor, and the elevators are broken half the time. Somehow there isn't money to fix those...

I know I sound like a whiney jerk but 1) parking isn't an issue? There's plenty of parking, this isn't the city. 2) I don't like the idea that I have to PAY MONEY to get to park at my job, and I don't even get the shelter from snow or hot ass sun??. 3) the fact that YOUR CAR CAN GET TOWED WHILE YOU'RE WORKING is fking insane to me. 4)there's already the entire first level blocked out for visitors and valet. Then there's a section for the MDs, they don't have to pay. I've never once seen that parking garage full in the 8 years I've been there. Did I mention we have a second parking garage with 5 levels? Yeah.

Imagine having a whole ass shift, just to come to the nothing you have parked there, then having to pay a fine to get your car back.

I get it, fair game - the hospital is private, we don't have residents, every patient is a VIP, they all know the CNO and CFO and whatever. Since it's private property, I understand that it's totally within legal limits to hire a private tow company to tow an employee's car from their job.

The tow trucks drive around the parking garage at change of shift to snipe people.

My coworker got two tickets already, and got a third one - while she was parked there as a patient - she sees her OB at our hospital since the offices are on campus as well. But they recognized her vehicle and assumed she was working. There's an RT who is legitimately consider quitting over this.

Am I being entitled? Is this common? Do we have any recourse? Now I have to dread coming to work but now with the added spice of getting a ticket at 0650 wtf. Haven't even been awake an hour, I'm only here to fking help people. All the while, predatory tow trucks are out on the prowl. Did I mention the tow truck folks get commission for their tows? I just find the people who chose to do that job as morally reprehensible. How do you go to bed at night knowing you screwed over people who CHOSE a career that is exclusively about helping others? Don't accuse me of virtue signaling here - tow trucks and parking meter officers are the same level of power-thirsty people who thrive on ruining strangers' days.

Yes, I know how I sound. Yes, there are bigger problems. Yes, I know 10 dollars a month isn't much. Yes, I know parking at some hospitals can be way more expensive or non-existant. No, this post doesn't highlight my most redeeming qualities. Not gonna see Daisy nurse action on THIS post. That's why this is a reddit rant and not me throwing hands with a tow truck guy on a Sunday evening hahah. I still think the principle of the matter is trash, it's a trash thing to do, nickle and diming hard working people to death. Anyway, thanks for hearing me out if you stuck it through to the end! I feel better now.
