in april i started working at a widely known hospital in the area as a nurse tech and was fired in september for a HIPAA violation. my supervisor was amazing and she understood that it was a mistake and tried to prevent me from being fired. i ultimately ended up being fired and had to sign something that says i cant work for them. most schools in the area use this hospital for clinicals (it’s a trauma 1, large hospital). because i was fired for this i can’t access their EPIC software which will obviously be used in nursing school. my supervisor suggested i look at going somewhere out of the county so i dont have to worry about explaining why i cant be at this hospital. but my question is, if i decide to go somewhere local can i explain the situation? or will there be repercussions for it? i don’t have any sort of CNA license or anything so nothing was taken away from me and it truly was a mistake, i worked in education for forever so i had no background in anything medical. during training they briefly touched on HIPAA but most NTs are in nursing school so i think they just assume everyone there has a good understanding of HIPAA. will i be denied from school if i explain this upon applying?
i have since gotten a PCA position at a different hospital in the area with no issue so would that help? ETA: the schools use other hospitals in the area too but from what i’ve heard, you go to different ones for different rotations depending on availability
