I was changing a dressing for this man and he’s always very controlling of everything we do with care. I was putting on his bandage and he started yelling at me so I said please don’t yell at me I’m just doing my best and I just work here. He started screaming at the top of his lungs saying I’ll yell if you want me to yell. And I just dropped everything and started to get off my knees to walk out and he told me to go fuck myself and fuck my mother and that he’ll fuck my mother and I just snapped. I told him to go fuck himself and walked out of the room. I know my coworkers heard it and I’m currently in the bathroom crying my eyes out. I think I’m going to just switch professions because I can’t take it anymore. I was just kicked in the face two days ago and now this. I guess I’m not cut out for nursing..
Edit: I got the job today for pediatric home care! 😄 hopefully it treats me better than LTC

I know what you meant here but I really have to stress this:
No one… and I mean NO ONE should have to tolerate abuse as part of their job. Nurses, retail workers, etc. all deserve a workplace that is free from verbal and emotional abuse, and EVERYone should have an employer that would protect them and back them up against customers/patients/employees that are verbally and emotionally abusive.
People fucking suck, but there is not a damn employee out there that ever DESERVES to be screamed at/verbally abused/etc. regardless of how good or bad you are at your job. If someone thinks you suck, they should file a complaint and allow the employer to retrain or fire the person, but no customer or patient should ever have the right to scream at someone like that.
