Because an NP asked me to do one and I said I did not want to because I have never done one before.
She acted annoyed at first but she did it and let me watch so I can understand the process.
I’m glad she let me watch but is it really crazy that I’ve never done one or seen one and wanted to see it done first? I didn’t want to mess something up with this patient and not know how to fix it.
Coming from an ER nurse right next to a SNF/LTC/Residential facility I have changed a countless number of suprapubic but I have many coworkers who have never done one and who have refused to do them because they were too intimidated by them. But honesty, as long as the old one is still in place or as long as it hasn’t been out for more than like an hour they’re usually SUUUUUPER easy. Like way easier than a foley, because the bladder is just like, right there. Don’t be intimidated by them. They are easy as pie. The only problem is that if it was previously dislodged or removed and if it has been out for a while because the hole starts to close/heal and they may need to end up going to IR to get a new one placed instead.
