I am an RN and I work in a psychiatric hospital. I work in a mostly office role as the Nurse Educator. This dress code for this position is either business casual or scrubs. I always wear scrubs because I love the all the pockets, they are super comfortable, and I occasionally get called to work on the floor when we have call offs. I do find the scrubs flattering as well. I dont wear them super tight, but they don't look like I am in a potato sack by any means.
I have been cursed/blessed with a very large behind. For reference i am 5'7 and 155 pounds. I can reasonably wear a medium scrub pant, but they are a bit too tight (not ridiculous, but I am not trying to get too close to that line) so I go for a large.
There was a situation where some patients were making comments about my butt after I left the unit, and it got back to the HR department. The HR lady called me into her office and told me I was no longer allowed to wear the scrubs I had been wearing, and I now needed to wear tunic tops that cover "your rump."
I found this incredible degrading!!! The patients talk about body parts of the staff and other patients all of the time. I completely follow the dress code, and I have worked there for 4 years with no complaints or comments about my scrubs. A lot of the office staff will come in with very formfitting clothes, and they go to the units as well sometimes.
The HR lady isnt my biggest fan because of some minor disagreements we have had in the past, but I felt really degraded and humiliated by this, and I totally feel like she used her position to get this effect.
Has anyone else ever been talked to about their scrubs in this manner?
