Hi! I just need to get this off my chest, and please correct me if I was in the wrong. Iāve been an ER nurse for two years now and just wanted to find something on the side to get some extra income. I found this IV drip place saying they were looking for a nurse or paramedic. It sounded simple, not as stressful compared to the ED. Applied and received a phone call, they wanted me to come in to shadow for a bit. They said the pay was $18/hr when youāre training and $20/hr when youāre on your own. I donāt know how much paramedics make, but based on what they do and the training they go through I would assume they make more than that amount. I was an LVN/LPN for a year before going back for my BSN and becoming an RN, but never as a nurse Iāve made that amount. It seemed too low? Again, please correct me if Iām wrong
Of course, thatās not where it ends. So I just decided to go in and shadow, I thought the job was extremely simple and thatās why it was those rates and maybe it was a place where you can grow. I wouldnāt know unless I went and experienced it. So I agreed to come in for three hours to see what it was like. She texts me the time, date, and location. Says to be there at 0945 because they open at 1000, wear black scrubs. Cool, the day comes and I text her at around 0910 asking where to park. No response. Found this parking spot for visitors. Seemed like an okay place to park. Get lost for a bit looking for the suite but still manage to find it at 0935. Place is locked, not surprised I got here a bit early, I rather get there early and make a good impression.
0945ā¦ 0950ā¦ 0955ā¦ No one shows up. Doors are locked, lights are off inside. I peeked to see if maybe thereās someone inside. Nothing. This very polite lady coming to one of the suites down the hall asks,
āare you looking for nameoftheplace?ā
I respond, āyes!ā.
She answers, āoh yeah thatās them!ā
Me, āthank you!ā.
I looked around, maybe thereās another door making sure thatās the correct entrance, indeed it is.. I give up. 0957ā¦ I just decide to go home.. No response from the earlier text. I start walking to my car, maybe Iāll run into them on way. Nope.
1130 I get a text from the lady, āyou can park at the visitors parking.ā I texted what happened. She calls within two minutes and asks for someone who is not me, I tell her (in a nice, friendly tone) who I am and about what happened. She responses very aggressively āWell, weāre here now and you can come in.ā I just respond (again, in a very nice, friendly and respectful tone) āIām so sorry, I made plans already.ā Looong pause after thatā¦ Then she says (in a flat tone), āokayā¦ have niceā. Then two minutes later I get an email saying I wasnāt selected for the job.
Thoughts? Comments? Iām all for learning and being better at job hunting, I just thought this was a weird experience and if thereās anything I couldāve done differently, please let me know.
