So about 10 months I posted a question asking for information about the Miramar Waterpark, in Weinheim, Germany (1 hour from Frankfurt), I received lots of comments and I promised to write a review once I go there. So I finally did it tonight, here goes... 🙂
So as I said, Miramar waterpark is a full blown water park which includes several pools, including a wave pool, several water slides , several salt baths , and a big sauna area. Every Tuesday evening, usually from 7 pm to 11 pm, they have an FKK night where the entire complex becomes clothes free (mandatory). I decided to go there specifically because it's an actual water park with slides and all, and I wanted to experience something like that without clothes. Today specifically, it's still considered the holiday season here in Germany, so the nudist hours start at 8 pm. In addition, every second Saturday of the months they have what they call a "long sauna night" where the entire complex is nudist for extended time (I think around 1 am? But maybe I'm wrong here).
I arrived at 7 pm , coming by train from Frankfurt, one hour before the nudist hours start, but I wanted to enjoy the facilities as much as I can. I bought a ticket that includes the entire complex (pools, salt baths, sauna), but it's possible to buy ticket to just part of the complex (the options are either pool only, pool salt baths , or entire complex). I paid 28 euros for the 4 hours I was there, I think it's rather expensive to be honest, time flies very fast (and they actually start kicking you out like 15 minutes before 11 pm). I also asked for 2 towels which cost 3 euro each (cleaning fee), and 30 euros deposit each. And I received a bracelet that opens the gate and can be used to lock the lockers in the changing room.
Once you enter through the gate you reach the changing room, it's a huge changing room with hundreds of lockers or maybe more. You find a locker and use your bracelet to lock it (you just stick the bracelet to the lock). These lockers in the changing room should not be used to store expensive items, for these there are additional lockers inside the pool area, with an actual key - you get the key for a 2 euro deposit, which you get back in the end. Since I arrived at 7, before nudist time, I changed to a swimming pants, took minimal things in my bag, and left the rest in the locker (that includes the winter gear I wore, because it's freaking cold).
A tour around the complex, just to see what's going on and then stayed near the pool. Most people might want to utilize that first non-nudist hour to visit the sauna (where it's mandatory to be nude), but it was all new to me, first time in a sauna , so decided to postpone that to later in the evening.
During the first hour I just enjoyed the pool with the bathing suit, it's still nice and relaxing, but there were lots of families and kids at this time. As the hour progressed, many people had left, and the atmosphere became very very nice, not crowded at all. Near the end of the hour they announced that it's now required to lose the bathing suits, and within like 10 minutes or so, most people were naked. There were still a very few people who wore bathing suits, mostly teenagers, but they were gone after like 20-30 minutes.
Now it's time to say that the ratio between males and females was rather disappointing, but not unlike any other experience I had at nudist places. I think the ratio was around 20 percent women, and 80 percentage males. However, there was absolutely no starring at all, people were very respectful and minding their own business. Also age range was mostly 40 with majority over 50 .... Very few youngers.
Once nudist hours started I started juggling between the wave pool, salt baths, outside pool (very warmed, it was so awesome being outside where the temperature is around 0 Celsius), also tried pretty much all the water slides (so awesome), and eventually I also tried the sauna area. For some reason I was worried that I won't blend in in the saunas (cause I'm a foreigner who is not experienced with the culture), but wow I worried for nothing. It's super simple... You walk around the sauna area, there are rooms, each one has a sign indicating the temperature in that sauna room, and you open the door, put a towel on the bench, you can either sit or lie down (I started by sitting, but after some time I decided to lie on my back, so relaxing). I actually enjoyed it very much.
The evening progressed really fast, I kinda wished I had spent more time in the sauna area in the first hour. But all in all, I think it was a really good use of the time I had... I think I tried more or less everything (although not all the sauna rooms because there are plenty of them).
To my understanding, according to a research I made, Miramar's nudist nights are kinda unique in Germany (or in the world), specifically because it's an actual water park with huge slides and all, and it's all clothes free. There is only one other water park that I know of that has a huge nudist section (and not limited to one night a week), and that is Thermae Erding near Munich, but they don't have water slides at all (in the nudist section), which is a bummer (I was supposed to go there as well, but my plans changed last minute).
That's it folks, hope my report was clear and informative.
Thanks for the great report, would def recommend going on the weekend FKK days so can enjoy the complex more and when I visited had a much more diverse crowd
