I come from a family with strong ties in Koreaāmy dad is a well-known businessman, and back home, our name carries a lot of weight. Right now, though, I'm thousands of miles away in the U.S., studying economics at the University of California. Itās my first real taste of freedom, and Iāve been soaking up every moment of college life, loving the independence that comes with it.
But thereās one thing thatās been a constant headacheāmy parentsā relentless pressure on me to find a boyfriend. It seemed like every phone call from them included some mention of how I should be dating. Out of pure frustration and an impulsive need to stop the nagging, I made the mistake of telling them I was already dating someone. The problem? I wasnāt. I thought that would buy me some peace of mind. Spoiler: it didnāt.
Within days of my āboyfriend announcement,ā my parents decided they wanted to meet him, and to my horror, they booked a trip to come visit.
Now, Iām stuck. What am I supposed to do? Well, Iām a bit of a rom-com junkie, and in movies, people always seem to get someone to pretend to be their significant other to fool their parents. So, naturally, I figured Iād do the same.
The only problem now isā¦ who do I convince to pretend to be my boyfriend?
