I've recently been thinking of what it would be like to fund an alternative library someplace where rent might be affordable. I know that might sound unnecessary, but hear me out: how would you like a library full of rare comics? What about a library full of obscure novels, possibly translations, not available at most libraries or brick-and-mortar retailers? What about a wall-to-wall collection of zines from across time, perhaps even new submissions? How would you like a library full of old VHS tapes, where you can check out a copy of Star Wars Episodes IV-VI without the special features, or a bunch of forgotten anime OVAs? What if you could check out original NES/SNES cartridges, and maybe even custom cartridges with demakes or entirely fan-created games that run on old hardware?
What I'm asking is, what if we had a library for punks?
I'm not expecting many people to resonate with this idea. And I don't have a plan to speak of yet. But I want to see whether anyone is into this idea, because I think it's cool, and if I could make it happen (or see it happen), it might validate my life up to this point.
