A few months ago I gave up my TV and it was a good move. I was spending most of my time laying on the couch staring at it mostly watching things I've already seen.
At some point I took the TV down and put it back in the box - it's still in the box and i've been wanting to get rid of it.
Since then, I've migrated to my computer. This has been an improvement as I'm more engaged in what I'm doing. I feel like playing a video game is better than watching something? Plus with a keyboard and mouse, doing other things is sooo much easier (vs a phone/tablet.)
I've started to make meals at home again, that are somewhat healthy. I enrolled back in to college (hopefully I get approval for funds.)
This weekend was a long one for me, 5 days. I've spent a good portion of it on my desktop - i wish i had a time tracking app running so I could tell. I did do some other stuff this weekend so it wasn't a total wash.
But I'm sitting here after playing an old game and see myself getting sucked in. Have you seen the movie Ready Player One? I always imagine that, expect instead of goggles it's a tablet or screen narrowing your attention and focus, blocking out everything else and all that matters is what you see and sometimes hear.
Anyways, I realized that i don't want to get sucked back in to old habits (old video games i enjoy.)
I think I'm ready to unplug and put my desktop in the closet for a while.
That leaves me with:
- Older laptop
- I might try to leave this in my car and only allow myself to use it if out and about like at a library or sit down restaurant
- Tablet (iPad)
- This is a tough one - i fall asleep watching YT, in the past i've not been able to fall asleep easily without. I have melatonin, I wonder if i should pick up something stronger
- Cell Phone
- This is a problem as i need it for work. I might just get two, the primary one for work and leave it in the car and a dumb flip phone for inside the house.
One piece of technology I think I'm going to allow myself free use of is an e-ink tablet (remarkable 2) that my work lets me use.
Let's see how well I do.
