“Is that the Monster High theme song?” I asked Sage after overhearing the music blaring form her headphones, walking with her down the street known as Error Hill Road. The Gray skies loomed over us, and the cool air swept through our short hair, it’s howling speaking like distorted cries for help. I ignored the sounds around us and caught up to my neighbor.

“Yes don’t judge me.” She paused her music when she stopped to stare at something.

“Look, if you're seeing something that isn’t good for our part then I’m leavi-” She grabbed my arm and pointed to something. I squinted my eyes and caught sight of what looked like a swarm of flies, buzzing loudly like an obnoxious static. “And that’s my cue to head out.” She promptly dragged me to the insects, swatting them away to look at the mangled body covered in green ooze that they feasted on. “You know I really think we should leave this alone-” I felt my heart drop at the demonic snarling that erupted from the shadows of one the ally ways. That’s when I heard it. At least I think? I didn't exactly hear it, but at the same time I heard a voice. Not in my ears, but in my mind.

“Connor.” It echoed.

“Yes?” I said with hesitance, getting a strange look from sage.

“Connor who are you talking to?” I ignored her as I listened into my subconscious.

“You know what’s going to happen right? I’ve been leaving messages on your mirror.” I looked up and around, feeling frightened and confused. “You know…My prey lives in your home, and I’ve been needing to feast on these poor souls to make up for the food you deprive me of.”

“I- I don’t know what you’re talking about. I worked at subway for a while. Did you want a sandwich?”

“NO.” It bellowed in a booming voice that was deeper and more gravel than the broken concrete beneath our feet. “Bedsides, I’m trying to stay away from bread. Too many calories for my kind to consume.”

I felt insulted by it for some reason, but didn’t have time to ponder over the feeling before something pushed me like a gust of wind. Only thing was, it felt solid, like a large body had rammed itself into me. I fell to the ground with Sage blabbering next to me with a whimpering tone, but I couldn't hear her. I wanted to, but the deep, echoing voice was all I could hear. Every other noise was drowned out. I panicked, slapping my ears in an attempt to make the voice disappear, and allow me to hear my surroundings once more. It didn’t work.

“My food is in your home, and you are taking it away from me.”

“Look, I just want to live my life and watch TV, what food are you talking about?” Beneath the shadows of the gloomy ally way came the figure I dreaded seeing. Sage screamed and fell to the ground beside me, while I fought the urge to hurl my previously eating Doritos.

“My prey is withing the confinements of your home. Withing the floor is what I crave. Get it for me before I devour you.” This time I think Sage heard the voice, because it no longer echoed in my mind like a tormenting stereo, and was instead booming from all around us. Plus she fell down, screaming once again.

I felt my head swell with pain and I grabbed it, my hearing fading and my vision blurring . I didn't see anything else until my eyes reopened, the sight of my dirty apartment coming into view.

“CONNOR!” Sage flew to me from a chair across the room. I looked down at the cushions beneath me, seeing the stained and crusty material of my green couch.

“Are you okay?!” She stared at me with panicked eyes and a sickening expression, glancing at my forehead, then back down at my face. “You just blacked out in the middle of the road before that figure vanished. Me and Mr. Haywood had to drag you back in here. Also I think something hit your head, you have a massive bruise-” I thought about the echoing voice that haunted my mind just moments ago and sprinted to my bathroom to look at my refection in the mirror. The second I caught sight of the abnormally large bruise, red grime appeared on the glass, spelling out in the scribble like hand writing I was all to familiar with seeing, “My prey Connor, deliver it to me.”

“No… I heard it. The voice, it spoke to me in my mind. That must have been where the bruise came from- I think- I don’t know.” I drew deep, raspy breaths, staring at the words that dripped from the grime… blood maybe? I mean they were red…

Sage examined the scene with an angry expression and trembling body. “I’m telling you, we need to act now.”

“It’s the monster.” I whispered.

“Connor what prey is it talking about?”

“I don’t know, I heard a voice in my mind earlier, and it said that It’s prey was in my floor-” We both stared at the carpeted floor that began to stain with a brown liquid. The liquid came form nowhere, It just appeared I- I have no words to describe it. It was just there, seeping into the fibers of my already dirty and un vacuumed rug. I live alone so don’t judge my cleaning habits.

“Connor what are you doing?” She asked as I sprinted to my kitchen and rummaged through unorganized drawers of kitchen utensils I never used.

“I don't care about the monster or whatever paranormal crap haunts this place. I’m getting rid of whatever this thing is so I can stop looking out my window and seeing one of my neighbors being gobbled up by a shadow creature. Next thing we now it, it might be me or you in that creature’s slimy mouth.” I could feel the emotions in my throat, begging to burst, but I held it. I felt that breaking my normal mindset of, ‘everything abnormal is fine as long as you ignore it’, would be a bad idea. Especially in front of Sage. She would see my change of feelings and never let me see the light of day, saying I’m becoming a soft teddy bear who wants comfort. I appreciate her feelings about me, but letting her see a side of me I always suppressed was an awkward moment I wanted to avoid. I grabbed a knife and ran to the stained portion of the carpet, bending down and stabbing it. The screams form under my bed started again, but I ignored it. I wanted all this to stop, and nothing would infiltrate my concentration.

“Connor be careful.”

I felt bad ignoring her, but I blocked out every outside noise for my own sanity’s sake. I always felt things weren’t important enough for me to care, but now I felt different. Scared maybe? I don’t know. But I hadn't felt this aggressive towards something since I was in eighth grade, and tried to find the student who stole my vanilla pudding cup. I successfully tore the stained carpet open after slicing it with all my strength, when someone came through my door.

It was our landlord decked out in his normal disco themed attire. “Hey kids-” He stopped when he saw the mess. Me crouched on the floor stabbing my now brown stained carpet and a bruise on my forehead, with Sage next to me staring at the hole in the carpet with a tear streaked face and messy dyed green hair. I could see where this conversation was going to go, and I don’t think I looked forward to it.

“Trying to hide a body for something?” He laughed, sounding only half joking.

“Far from it.” I stabbed the carpet once more, finally chopping the last piece I needed so I could rip it from it’s stitches.

“Now’s really not the time Mr. Haywood.” Sage said with a pleading tone.

“I’ll leave you too it I guess, just wanted to remind you that rent is due on the-”

“Not now!” We both yelled, causing the older man to jump and leave the room with haste, slamming the door behind him. We stared down at the floor which was covered in a puddle of brown liquid that smelled like a more putrid version of intense diarrhea. It took many minutes of struggling, floor smashing, and complaints from the tenants downstairs, but we finally got the floorboards to let loose from their structure.

Now you’re probably wondering what we found. Well here’s the thing, I don’t know what we found. It’s currently pulsating like a giant heart, and slowly sliding across the floor like a giant lump of slimy flesh with Sage trying to control it. My computer battery is dying, so I’ll try and update whenever it’s charged. Cliffhanger much? Nah, just need time to decipher whatever this flesh monster is. If I get any comments I’ll try and reply. If I don’t, then that means my computer has already died. In the mean time, sorry for the rushed entry, this day has been a little too chaotic for my liking.
