Part 1

I have reached the next "safe" house. I have a few hours before I need to rest. This is what I found behind the green and black door. I want to warn you before you read this that what I found hurts me.

The dark room smelled like fresh made cinnamon rolls. As I was walking forward trying to find this smell, there was this scratching sound. It seemed to be coming from everywhere at once. But it wasn’t enough to distract me from the smell. Suddenly the room become completely silent and still, the scent was gone. I was very aware that the room felt electrically charged. The air just felt like static on the television screen. The feeling you got as a kid when you ran your hand over the TV screen, I felt that over my entire body.

Looking around the room didn’t help, I couldn’t see anything. It was like the room was lacking all light. My heart started racing, because I knew deep in my gut I wasn’t alone. There was something in here with me. I started to step backwards, one small step at a time. I was trying to find the door again, but there was no light. I felt the air shift, and all the hair stood up on my neck. There was something directly behind me. I could feel the hot, moist breath on my neck. I could feel it inhale, making my neck cold. I could swear it was smelling me.

In this whisper “Hello, precious. You smell delicious.” I RAN!!!!!!!!!! I ran until my legs felt like Jell-O. I never even reach a wall. How big is this room?

“Where do you think you are going, precious? You can’t escape.” Something just touch my shoulder. I was huffing and puffing, I needed to find that door. I was searching for the frame of light outlining the door. “Precious, stop running. It will be easier if you just stop. I promise not to hurt you, much.” Ha ha ha ha. OH that laugh, I will never stop hearing that laugh.

I couldn’t run anymore. I stood still catching my breath. What was I supposed to do, I’m only 12. I just wanted my dad. He would know what to do. It was behind me again.

“Have you decided to behave?” I could feel something touching my back, reaching around my stomach. It was cold, it made me shiver. I was pulled backwards into this thing. It was embracing me.

“Its ok, precious. You are safe now. You just need to behave. I am going to give you a gift, if you promise to never run away from me again.”

“Who are you? What are you?”

“I am your new master, your father now. You can call me, Timothy or Tim.”

Timothy turned me to face him. All I could see was bright green eyes looking at me.

“Do you want my gift? Will you behave for me?” I nodded, what else could I do. I started to cry. Tears stinging my eyes, and staining my cheeks. He pulled me closer, into a hug. I was sobbing and shaking.

“Shhh, It’s alright, precious. I will keep you safe. Shhh.” Timothy was rubbing my back and think he was trying to comfort me, but all I wanted was to wake up and have this be a dream. I wanted to be home and in my bed. I wanted to see my mom, my brothers and sisters, and I wanted my dad. My dad’s hugs always made me feel safe. Timothy’s hug made my skin crawl.

Finally I was able to speak. “My name is Rose. I don’t like precious.”

I made Timothy laugh again, but this time it seemed sweeter and softer, almost welcoming. His chest rumbled against my face. Timothy stood up and took my hand, we starting walking.

“The gift I am going to give you is eyes like mine, Rose. They won’t glow like mine, but they will allow you see in the dark. I don’t do well in the light, you will end up being my light walker.”

It sounded so cool to be able to see in the dark. Maybe he wasn’t going to hurt me, maybe I was going to be safe.

“It is going to hurt though, to get this gift. Are you sure you want it?” I just nodded again. “No, Rose, I need you to say that you want the gift. You need to say I want the gift of sight.”

I nodded. “I want the gift of sight.” As soon as I said the last word my eyes started to burn. It was like I was looking in the oven with the door open. I could see just red, like the burning getting hot on the stove. Just a circle of red. I was screaming. I fell to the ground grabbing my face and rolling around from the pain.

“It will be over soon. Each of us has 1 gift we are able to give to the new ones. I selected you to receive my gift. I want you to see the world the way I do. The beauty that is darkness.” He said that with such sincerity.

Once my eyes stopped burning, I could see everything in the room. Timothy was tall really tall. With shaggy brown hair with soft curls. He has these deep green colored eyes that had a slight glow to them. The only thing that made me step away from him was the dark red horns that followed his hair line on his forehead. The horns kind of looked like a crown, his hair fell in between them. He looked so kind, but I was frightened. I can’t explain it, but he just felt like danger. He was smiling and it was calming. I was still frightened, but I was calm.

“Your eyes are now like mine and they are beautiful.” He cooed. He stroked the side of my face. His touch wasn’t cold anymore. “Do you want to see what your eyes look like now?”

“Yes, but it is to dark. I need light.”

He took my hand and lend me to the wall that was lined with mirrors. The mirrors seems to go up for miles. He released my hand and pulled me in front of him. I truly noticed how tall Timothy was. I barely reached above his hip. I was almost 5 feet tall. He had to be at least 10 feet tall. “Look at yourself. You are beautiful.”

I looked in the mirror at myself. I could see my Blonde hair, shining like light was being shone on me. It wasn’t dirty like I thought it would be. It looked like I had just washed it. “No, look at your eyes!” He demanded. I stared into my eyes. They use to be bright blue, but now they were green with yellow flecks in them, with a dark blue line around them. The more I focused on them the more I realized the light I was seeing was coming from the yellow flecks in my eyes. I could almost hear my eyes humming as the yellow was glowing softly.

“What did you do? I had my mother’s eyes. I want my mother’s eyes back.” I started to tear up again.

Timothy smacked me across the face. “You will not speak of them again! I am your FATHER now! You have no Mother. You ANSWER ONLY TO ME!!!!!!” He roared. The mirrors started to shake. “You will behave. You will not do things to upset me. This is your only warning.” He hissed at me and then turned away from me and started to walk toward a door. “You should be following me, or do you want to find out what happens when I am upset?” I quickly trotted up to him and was silently following him back into the depths of the room.

I need to stop here. I need to rest while they are sleeping. The only nice thing is the light walkers can’t track me. I will share more when I move to my next location. It’s getting harder to stay ahead of them.
