Hi, I'm Tom. I run a group called "Trash Fishing". It's a local volunteer group. We host fishing contests, but we don't fish for fish, we pull trash out of our waterways. It is surprisingly fun. We give out trophies for the most trash, biggest piece of trash, and the most unusual piece of trash pulled. Last year we pulled 3,500 lbs. of trash out of the waterways.
We really want more people to join us. But it isn't easy finding our specific kind of volunteer. They need to have a boat, a motor boat, but not too nice of a boat. They also have to have a Tom Sawyerish sense of adventure.
We have a little bit of budget. We raised some money by hosting a chili cookoff and silent auction last year ($5,000!). Now we are trying to figure out how to get people to notice us.
One thing that we have going for us is that we have some home movies of past events that I think are fun to watch. I'm doing a trial run of trying to get people to watch one of them on YouTube. I'm not sure if this will benefit us greatly but I'm giving it a try. I'm going to spend $100 ($2 per day) to try to show one of our videos to people in our general area who Google Adwords thinks might be interested in us.
I'd love your comments on whether you think this is a good idea. Have you ever advertised your YouTube content? I can also provide updates on how the advertising is working out if anyone is interested.
