I've been considering therapy lately and while I'm not exactly in an ENM relationship it is something I am interested in. I have a FWBs that may be leading in to something more (part of why I want to seek therapy, I'm not sure if I see more with them but I think they are wanting it). They are also curious about ENM and already in therapy, but I don't think they're discussion ENM with their therapist.
I've never done therapy so I don't even know where to start in looking for one. I'm in NYC (Manhattan) and hoping to find a therapist locally I may be able to actually go to see in person.
I'm mainly looking for a therapist mainly to work through relationship situations, but I'm also wanting to discuss more general topics like work and general life direction and seeking fulfilment.
The reason I'd like a therapist versed in ENM is mainly for a more modern take on relationships. I'm not totally sure ENM is right for me, maybe monogamish, or maybe something totally monogamous, but I don't think I'm on the traditional path of finding a partner, getting married, having kids, house with a white picket fence, etc.
I'm already 33 and on the fence regarding kids and just generally the kind of life I want to lead.
Anyways, I'm curious what your experience has been with your therapist. Are they knowledgeable about ENM? Does that even matter? How did you find them?
Appreciate any advice
Yes.
But a word of caution. I have a friend who is a therapist who claims to be adept at this who has fucked up ideas about ENM. And the stuff people post here that they are told by their therapists is alarming. So do some research and be selective and skeptical.

In her case, she said polyamory only works when a married couple unicorn hunts and forms a closed triad.
We had words.
Other stuff I've seen was very mononormative and sex negative. But no examples jump out at me.
