I (m) am not currently in a relationship. I'm seeing one person, but have long established for myself that I am suited to ethical non-monogamy. However, due to life experiences and lifelong observations, I struggle to believe that people are willing be, or fully capable of being, ethical and honest and open about what they're doing. I find myself only in a circle of people who practice farcical "monogamy" while entertaining others.
Am I alone in this doubt/distrust? Or just looking for a needle in a haystack? I don't expect to be told about every romantic or sexual relationship that a partner has, but "You're the only one for me" or "You're the only person I'm seeing" gets really old and disappointing when there's clear evidence to the contrary. It just diminishes my hopes of finding anyone open and honest even more.
ETA: I pull no punches, and am open and honest with others myself. I'm always sure to express that I'm not looking to be in a monogamous relationship...I just think I give the honesty I would hope to receive in return, but never do.
