Thinking that solo poly might be for me. For solo poly folks - what does that look like for you?
Post Body

Would love to hear from folks that did/are doing solo poly - what does it mean to you? Biggest takeaways from your experiences? What did you find easiest/most difficult?

Iā€™ve been thinking about the kind of enmeshment that Iā€™ve default assumed I wanted (living together, being incorporated into each others families etc), but starting to realize that I may not actually want that. I like my independence, and itā€™s possible to have that feeling of coming home to someone without actually living with them.

Trying to learn more about how other folks have approached it all!

This sounds wonderful! Iā€™m so happy for you that youā€™ve been able to create this kind of space for yourself and those around you. Thank you for sharing that with us!

I think your last paragraph is what resonates so much for me. Itā€™s not to say I canā€™t accommodate those that I love in my space - but itā€™s important to me to have my own schedule too.

Oh man. The desire for a similar setup is what kind of clued me in to maybe solo poly being a better fit for me. I was all ā€œIā€™d love to live with a partner. But we should have our own rooms. And maybe enough space to do things outside of my bedroom but I donā€™t have to be in their space. And people can come over and I donā€™t have to worry about bothering them. And I can go home without worrying about being perceived. Wait a minuteā€¦ā€

The notion of relationships being ā€œlimitedā€ if the escalator isnā€™t even on the table is one of the things that Iā€™m deconstructing now. I have a partner, who, for many reasons, we will never live together. I struggled with that for a bit because I would absolutely love to see more of them, but have recently realized that being further enmeshed would dramatically alter our relationship, and not necessarily for the better.

Appreciate you sharing thoughts & advice!
