You can of course, but I’m not sure how useful a quantitative study of 11 would be?
But I agree, it’s not the size that’s the main difference, but the data you collect. A qualitative study, like Hamilton has conducted, is looking for data from narratives, from interviews with subjects where they get to describe things in their own words, and is useful to explore more complex topics.
Whereas a quantitative study is more preoccupied by measurable data, statistics from a questionnaire etc. which is really useful when you need statistics, identify shifts in trends etc.
They are both incredibly valuable when done right, and that’s the issue I was taking with the commenter who seems to think a study is only worth doing if you have 500 people or so involved.
Kind of sounds like that’s exactly what you are saying.

There’s a difference between quantitative and qualitative studies. They both have a function.
