What changes would you wanna see in dating apps?
Post Body

So I am working on a dating app (and if anyone wants to be a beta tester and give feedback that would be greatly appreciated), and a biiiig reason I'm doing this is my frustrations with how bad these things are for people who don't want something mainstream. If you get swiped left on a lot, you just get hidden from most people. And since most people don't want ENM, being honest about what you want just ruins your rating for the algorithm. So your torn between lying to get matches or being honest and getting so many left swipes your not even shown to most people. This is all on top of dating apps being just woefully insufficient in many ways. So here is what I came up with to make them better (but the core of the app I want to be ENM and kinky people). I only have the barebones up but I'll list the stretch goals I hope to get:

The core of the app:

-No Swiping, you take a questionnaire about things that are important in a relationship and the algorithm gives you a score with other people who answer similarly. Think like OKC. This is not things like Myers-Briggs or Love Languages like many other personality based apps, because (sorry to break it to you if you're super into these things), there is actually no data that these are accurate.

- Pictures are split into a couple different albums: Faceless, SFW, and NSFW. The most you can have access to to start is the faceless photos. This helps retain some anonymity so people can be super honsest about their kinks. Other photo albums have to be unlocked once you trust the person with your identity.

The stretch goals I want to add:

- A close proximity mode. Pictures aren't available in this mode, but this is for when your out at a bar and if you wanna see if someone nearby is also ENM/Kinky/whatever your looking for

- A kink list so people can write their sexual preferences

- Background checks to make sure someone doesn't have violent crime/DA in their record

- Ability to upload your most recent STI test and list your PrEP/vaccination status

- An area to make posts like SLS for people to organize parties

- Listing your partner's accounts like Feeld

Anyways I appreciate any opinions you guys have

I personally really dislike the idea of a forcing faceless pictures. I feel like it sets me up to be objectified and only looked at for my body. I’d rather have no pics at all.

I understand that many people do this to protect their identity if they’re concerned about being outed, but I actually think the solution to this is hiding things like a kinklist until you match with someone. Show things that people can’t be outed for or are less sensitive about, like location age etc, but save the more sensitive details until both parties have matched.

Agreed. I already automatically swipe No on anyone with no face pics.

To be clear - I’d prefer to have photos! But forcing people to only show their bodies feels objectifying. If you hid the other elements people may be more comfortable showing face pics

Edit: also on your point regarding stalking - I think it’s unlikely for someone to gain a stalker because that person saw a random profile on a dating app. The greater risk is after a match has been made, and you as the developer cannot control against that. Further, giving people to hide or show their faces when/if they like gives individuals control over what they are comfortable with, instead of assuming that everyone is afraid to show their faces.
