motivation behind open relationship?

would you say that your open relationship allows you to get more fulfilment than you’d be able to get with your primary partner? eg other people are satisfying you where they can’t? or would you say that opening your relationship has simply expanded on an already fulfilling sex life? wondering if the reason non monogamy didn’t work for me and my ex is because we both had different motivations for wanting to do it - opinions?

My partner satisfies me in all aspects of the relationship, so I guess we could be happy being monogamous. I actually haven't slept with anyone else since we got together. But we both discussed ENM since early in the dating days, as we feel it just works better for us and the dynamic we have.
