Do your parents know you’re non-monogamous? How did they find out, and what were their reactions?
Post Body

Considering telling my immediate family, because my mom keeps pestering me about whether or not I’m dating anyone (I have two ongoing relationships that are not primary, and still actively going on dates with new people). I suspect it would be poorly received and a nuclear solution to a very minor nuisance, but curious what others have experienced!

Ha! I love that

My also divorced mother, on the other hand, was uncomfortable with me and my monogamous bf of 3 years sharing a bedroom when I was 25 lol

I love “your men,” just a subtle change, doesn’t need to be a big dramatic shift.

I think those are valid concerns, and I appreciate you sharing that.

It’s honestly unlikely I would tell my family right now, particularly as neither of my partners are likely to meet my family any time soon (for a vast number of reasons).

If/when things become more enmeshed, that’ll be future me’s problem to figure out.

She sounds wonderful! And it does sound like it went well. It’s great that she’s able to say “that’s not for me, but it’s okay and I accept that it’s for you!”

If only more things were that straightforward.

My motivation for this post was really out of annoyance haha realistically I probably wouldn’t tell my family until at least one of the relationships becomes enmeshed, or has sufficient depth/longevity that I wouldn’t want to continue hiding it.

I have a long history with my family of doing what I want, their opinions be damned, so this would likely be just another thing if I ever do decide to share haha

Oof that’s really rough. I’m sorry that you went though all of that, and her reaction impacted you financially too.

Oof. Idk what your relationship was like with him but that’s a really rough regardless. I’m sorry you had to deal with that

I could see that getting old VERY quickly haha gave me a solid chuckle though
