When he first sent me that text, I immediately saw it as fetishizing language and told him so. We had numerous back and forths about it. I found his points to be dismissive and ignorant, but I also found myself questioning if I was making too big a deal out of it. BUT I also recognize that downplaying racial awareness is part of my white conditioning. My other poc partner agreed with me, but I wanted to get other perspectives. That's what brought me to write this post.

Your responses helped me build confidence to confront him again this weekend. I told him that I need him to start learning from the experts, because our destructive roles in white america are too important to ignore, and I don't have the ability or knowledge to talk him through it all. He agreed and I gave him books to read/listen to.
