Idk, maybe this is a controversial opinion, bc a lot of people have strong negative feelings about r/childfree. But I know that monogamy isn’t for me like I know kids aren’t for me, and it’s been like that since I was 16. I’m almost 30, and the long-term effects have felt pretty alienating for someone who can date more than one person at a time.
I genuinely do not judge people for living monogamously. It’s mononormativity I’m tired of. I’m expected to buy in to the stakes of monogamy, mostly cheating drama, on Reddit and in the media and even with my friends. The last time I made a Reddit comment that a monogamous situation sounded exhausting, I got destroyed with downvotes. I’m more closeted about my nm on Reddit than I am anywhere else, even work.
I get it, not everyone lives the way I do, and a big part of my lover’s philosophy is to respect that! But I just wish there was a little more room for snark and catharsis. I feel like the nonmonogamous crowd is quite accepting of many lifestyles, but it doesn’t really go the other direction. For all of the shit I catch, I’ve earned the right to some side eye when the monogamists get toxic. Rant over.
