Whenever open relationships are brought up in other parts of reddit I occasionally make the mistake of reading the comments. (Advice, relationship advice, etc)
Like I know people are really into monogamy but sometimes I seriously forget how not main stream my ideas of relationships are. So many people feel that someone even mentioning interest in the concept of an open relationship means they have zero emotional love for their partner and break up is inevitable. Like I'm not talking about the posts of people trying open relationships where one partner isn't on board. Just one person being like huh isn't that something open relationship sounds interesting. Like if my husband told me he had been reading about van life and wanted to know what I thought about full time RV living I wouldn't suddenly doubt his happiness in our life and constantly wonder about all his secret wishes for van life and how he would clearly leave me one day to pursue this van life and he probably already has a camper van picked out before he even brought up the idea to me.
It's just mind blowing to me that people are out there being like if my partner ever considered something outside of what I wanted that would be the end. Like not just going through with it, just thinking about something. "Whelp time to throw out the whole relationship, once someone starts following those vanlife tiktok accounts and starts talking to people who full time travel there's no hope they will ever want to be with me. "
I'm so flipping thankful to this subreddit doe making me feel like it's ok to have an open relationship and that it's a valid life to live.
Btw Husband and I are going on 6 years this year. Happy 2023 to everyone in this amazing subreddit.
