What is it that "I am" NOT

I (maybe) intellectually understand that "i am". at the same time, i want to know what all these other ideas are, which are conflated with "i am".
for example, people feel like they are their sex, personality, ethnicity, thoughts, reaction to thoughts, actions etc. but we know that's not true.
so if "i am" isn't the culmination of what i listed before, which can be abridged to the term "identity", what is the "identity" itself?
basically, what is the thing that people mistake for "i am"?
