Wrestlers Dealing With a Huge Defeat
Post Body

I find it fascinating how the characters in NJPW deal with adversity and show vulnerability. Winning in the Wrestle Kingdom is their ultimate goal. Everyone wants that elusive chance to close out the biggest show of the year, thank the fans and celebrate backstage with their faction mates.

However, usually before reaching the pinnacle they first experience bitter disappointment. Like Naito WK12 - WK14 or Ibushi WK14 - WK15. And most never achieve that crowning moment at WK, making it all the more special to those few who do.

Here two very very recent cases of coping with a loss:

I'm actually wondering how much of Will's postmatch is characterised and how much is flat out him. The amount of actual garbage the guy has had to put up with being thrown at him by dirtsheets and uneducated partisan fans is enough, but life in general has been horrific to him.

Despite everything he's mentioned in the interview remember we also had the hot potato due to injury situation with the belts where it seemed everyone was jinxed. He had to bounce back into place fast from his own injury to stand in.

The most recent thing that really got on my nerve were AEW geeks saying they didn't want him or Aussie Open or Empire on AEW when it was obvious they hadn't bothered to even look at a youtube clip. Two weeks later some of them were demanding that Khan sign them.

I'm not a big fan of Kenny Omega. This current one just irritates me. It's meant to, he's a heel. Undeniably a great wrestler, but much like Led Zep are a good band technically, I don't own any songs. Nor do I want any. Hype train pisses me off.

But...

... the US Title going back to the US makes sense and if it means ROH, AEW, GCW and NJPW Strong can get shots at it, good, more bridges. My dream match would be Ospreay vs Vikingo for it but I can't see that happening with the CMLL/AAA situation, technically the last forbidden door (odd considering Penta and Octagon's origin story).

All in all, I see how it works out but imho Will hasn't been getting the recognition or respect he's deserved. Or an apology from half the doubters. And I dread how much eyebleach I'm gonna need to cleanse the Omega Fawning orgy coming up. 😒

P unhappy. But an honest promo.

What amuses me about modern times is people like you think being a dickhead is a flex or funny. It isn't. You're just a dickhead. And "satirical ironic sarcastic satire though" is a statement made by a dickhead, realising everyone thinks it isn't funny and is, in fact, a dickhead.

Thanks for attending my TED talk.

Dickhead.

It's a business thing. NJPW can't go "Right we're sending Ospreay over" to AAA because CMLL will go "oh so we are second best?" And vice versa. AAA have a pretty protected asset in Hijo too so I don't think they'll be getting that belt back again anytime soon. He was on the 56 Nights card which was incredible (GCW)

I don't know the ins and outs of the AAA CMLL thing. From what I can gather a lot of people are like "Oh come on guys, get a grip" but it even runs to the extent that apparently contracted stars can't be on an indy show with a CMLL guy. That's a forbidden door with bricks in it, which I don't get because as I say, Octagon and Penta. Is it a work or isn't it?

That aside I agree with the belts thing. If Strong say "right no the belt comes back to us" though, it'll change the dynamic and prevent hoarding. I think the US title will be a bridge building belt which is a good thing but Khan needs to learn not all roads lead to Rome. The touring belt has to tour.

I was gonna crack a history joke there about the roads leading to the Mongolian empire instead but worried people wouldn't get the reference and downvote me. 😂

Thanks mate. 🙏

Absolutely. I found myself being dragged into what had actually become a genuine grievance due to a kind of "guilt by association" thing to one worker. There were people online dogpiling the guy and he was having issues of his own. Not as severe as the cases a few years ago, but toxic as hell fans were piling on him and there was soon this kind of "us and them" divide created nobody wanted.

There are two things that got to me here; as a former worker I can say even in the few months I did it I saw fans do some mental things. Eddie Kingston said it best: "we don't need to know what happens backstage at the baseball." I saw fans do crazy things before the internet, now it'll be a free for all. No barrier to interaction.

Additionally a couple of months later after this dude eventually left and gave up, which is saddening, someone passed away in tragic circumstances related to mental health. And cue the sympathy from the same people who had been piling on the other guy on social media.

I'm lucky and honoured enough to get a minute here and a minute there with some workers. I know a lot of em watch reddit and it's on us as fans to watch how we go if we want a good healthy scene. If anyone else wants to talk to a worker in the business, or from any walk of life, even their favourite, just remember they're only human. Not robots, not property, no matter how much money or fame we think might soften it.

Sorry for the long post but like I say I have lost mates. Didn't follow Hana but that did really get to me over how much of a waste that was. When you see people that lived in a council flat on the TV living large and think what might have been for the ones we lost, it really pisses you off at the world.

Cheers mate.
