Baloon necessary?

So I normally just insert nozzle of canister into baloon but it's super loud and I wanna be discreet, so I instead just put mouth on dispenser and then exhaled contents into baloon I read somewhere it's not safe to inhale directly from canister, can cause some sort of spasm or some shieeeet thanks in advance
