Was Kurt Cobain real? Or is he just a figment of my imagination?

I asked someone the other day if they liked Kurt Cobain. They said "who? That fucking junkie?" And I said "no. The guy from Nirvana." Then they said "oh you mean the clothing brand?" And I said "no. There was a band in the 90s called Nirvana. They sang songs about beans and moist vaginas." Then the guy just walked away from me. It weirded me out so much because I thought everyone knew Kurt. So was he a real person or not?
