Getting Apple to fix the non-popup issue in iOS10.1 (+state of the keyboard address)
Post Body

TL;DR Only Apple can fix this. Radar bug reports (manually filed) is what tells them there's an issue, more reports more likely for them to file. Instructions (rather simple) below:

What non-popup issue?

Ever had that issue where nintype appears in one app, but at the same time, on another app, nothing (not even nintype) appears? Very common issue, has existed since iOS8, and is kinda super annoying.

It's worse in iOS10, because you have to restart the keyboard from the options menu.

Can this be fixed?

Not from my end, no. Also, when nintype shows up in one app but doesn't, in another, it's not my fault. iOS is clearly at fault.

How can we fix this?

File a radar bug if you can replicate the issue, which is Apple's bug reporter. And I'll forward your apple bug ID to the right guy in charge.

EDIT: if you're not a developer, just file the bug here : http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html

What is Apple Radar? What do you want me to do?

I want you to file a bug to Apple, using Apple's radar system (bugreporter.apple.com - or search "radar").

Why should I file a radar system?

Because it seems that the more duplicate bugs are filed, the more apple cares about them. Me and the fleksy team made a test app for fixing non-popup issues, and that one seems to be fixed. Unfortunately, that didn't seem to fix nintype's, which means whatever caused nintype's popup issues is yet another thing.

How does one replicate the bug?

Which is why I made it easy now to reproduce the non-popup issue with nintype. I've even added a video guide.

How do I replicate it?

Video proof (iOS10.1, iPhone 6, latest app store nintype)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SI0G6JWJx3U

Here are the steps:

  1. open nintype in some app (APP_A, e.g notes)
  2. open nintype in some other app (APP_B, e.g reminders)
  3. in nintype in APP_A, press_hold spacebar, lightly, for 5 seconds.
  4. in APP_A select "yes", which activates the crasher mode
  5. select "trigger_crash" which makes nintype restart
  6. switch to APP_B (go to home screen first), open nintype.
  7. select "trigger_crash" again, which will make nintype restart

do steps 4-7 repeatedly between APP_A and APP_B, and eventually
nintype will stop showing up. It won't show up until you restart nintype
by turning on/off open access from settings.app

Once you filed the radar bug (you can probably just copy and paste the above steps into radar), send the radar ID to me, and I'll forward this to the keyboard engineer guy.

STATE OF THE KEYBOARD ADDRESS

I don't know, I kinda want to take a break from it. One reason nintype has pushed far and will continue to do so, is because I myself use nintype.

Gonna make a free version (only certain themes enabled nagging reminders to send money to yours truly). Will probably make another tutorial video on how to use nintype. Maybe

Eventually I will make iCloud syncing work. Already kinda got it half-working with settings backup, but I have to make it work properly with dictionary syncing. The same engine would then be used for 123cal's GTD notes syncing.

Right now though, I'm kinda spending more time on the secret app I'm working on. It's not that big of a secret though. It could have been "Candy Crash of Clans", but it's now something else.
