Is Red Steel a memorable game or is it overrated because it released at launch for the Wii?

Red Steel was a game I've heard a lot of back when the Wii released and was popular. It offered a more sinister experience that Nintendo didn't offer in terms of setting and gameplay. The first one did so well they made a sequel which did not meet expectations on sales. When looking back at popular 3rd party games from the Wii era Red Steel is the one that gets a fair bit of mentioned especially since it was also exclusive.

But is the game (and the sequel) good games or was it overhyped for being released on Day 1 of the Wii?
