Good Timezones Sub.
I'm doing research on Duopolies in Gaming, and the focus on this post is the Nintendo/Sega Duopoly from way back in the day (others include Sony/Microsoft and Tencent/Embracer Group). I was doing some Google-fu and either I am not looking in the right place, or my memory is failing me.
I have heard through the grapevine that both Sega and Nintendo at the time wanted to keep out the West in releasing console games for the NES/Genesis (Mega Drive to some of you) and that two companies from the West both used reverse engineering to get around Nintendo/Sega's restrictive licensing agreements. Atari (releasing as Tengan) and Electronic Arts both released unofficial games for the NES/Genesis respectively. Both companies used deception to get the code to the respective lockout systems, and both Atari and Electronic Arts settled out of court for the deception.
Am I remembering events correctly, or am I completely off tangent?
