I got to spend a couple of hours with the new Tamron 70-300 A047Z lens last night on a Tamron sponsored photo walk. It wasn’t the most ideal conditions to really test it under, but that’s the point, right? It probably would have helped if I made a list of things to try, but I didn’t think of that.
TLDR; I have no concerns about the lens or the quality of the output from it. I did not miss having stabilization in the lens at all. It’s very light weight, but feels sturdy. It’s on my buy list. This and the 24-70 f/4 will be a great combo to hike with.
I put the lens on my Z7 because I wanted to see how it did at the higher resolution. It’s not much bigger than the Nikon DX 70-300. (In fact it might be a little smaller?) The lens is light, so no problems carrying it on a hike. One thing I noticed right away is the USB-C port on the side of the lens. At some point in the future you will be able to do firmware upgrades without the console by plugging your PC directly into the lens. They also mentioned that you’d be able to do it from a phone at some point too. Everything worked as expected. Overall I’m sure I’ll be happy with this on my Z5 or Z7. I’m sure I’d miss the VC on a body without IBIS. I'll probably be buying it, but getting this close to Christmas I'll wait for the holiday sales.
I can’t think of what else to write. Ask whatever and I’ll answer what I can.
