What if intelligent alien life just kill themselves? My solution to the Fermi Paradox.
Post Body

What if intelligent life is uncommon in the universe because most of them realized the pointlessness of existence and without a survival instinct like us, just kill themselves?

As we all can see, existence is a pain and no matter what, everything WILL cease to exist one day. Even the Universe itself will. So, any intelligent species would eventually realize that it is utterly pointless to do pretty much anything in the near infinite expanse of this universe where entropy will one day reach its maximum and put a period to everything.

I think the only reason our civilization is functioning is due to our evolutionary instinct to survive, and the imperfect society we all live in. We are forced to get a job, pay bills and die, just like everyone else. We are forced by evolution to do anything we can to keep our species going on. We are forced to believe that getting a good job and having kids is our goal. We are indoctrinated that there is meaning to everything and that there is life after death. We essentially force purpose onto ourselves. What if the world was perfect? What if technology had advanced to the point where we are immortal, have completely self sustaining machines that can manufacture whatever we want and even babies instantly? What would be our purpose then? The heat death of the universe is inevitable, so what's the point in going on till that?

It only makes sense to me that any intelligent species with advanced technology would find no meaning in exploring and colonizing the universe. Maybe that's why we haven't seen any intelligent life yet. Maybe we are the only ones who are forced by ourselves to keep living. Maybe our descendants in the distant future would realize this and do it. But that won't matter, because we will all be dead and forgotten.
