I've said this before in various ways, but I'm not all that wild about NW pre Dark Passion Play. That's what I heard first, so maybe that's where my bias comes in.
I saw a picture of her somewhere and that got me started looking into the band and their work.
After listening to DPP, Endless Forms and Imaginareum, I went looking for the older stuff. I read up on some of the issue with the split and her dismissal and I don't really have an opinion either way.
But when I listened to Century Child, I wasn't even sure I was listening to NW. The entire sound was different, not just her voice. More operatic than symphonic rock. The later stuff is so much more rich and powerful, it seemed like a complete change.
I don't see a lot of difference between Annette and Floor, but there is a major difference between them and Tarja. No, I haven't listened to any of Tarja's later works, so maybe she's developed a deeper style? Could she, does she sing something like Seven Days To The Wolves or For the Heart I once Had ?
There, I've said it.
