iOS App subscription with pre-roll ad

Hey guys,
I'm a bit confused right now because I wanted to watch the recaps of some games I missed during my vacation and had to watch pre-roll ads before the content started.
I've an active app subscription and I thought that there wouldn't be ads with this type of subscription. Am I missing something or is this a mistake from the NHL app?
