NFL Week 5 Predictions Thread (2020 Season)
Post Body

Happy Wednesday, r/NFL! We're done with the first quarter of the season. October is in full swing and teams are finally starting to perform at an NFL level, shaking off the lack of a preseason and some horrendous injuries. I was able to go 10-5 again last week bringing me to 41-22. How did everyone else do? We have more teams testing positive for COVID, so keep that in mind when predicting the matchups. We had a COVID bye last week, but this week we have our actual byes coming up with two teams out of the lineup. Let's get to it!

Winner Loser Comments
Buccaneers over Bears Brady was in great form in last week, taking a "no risk it, no biscuit" style of offense. This is a tricky defensive matchup on the road on a short week, down O.J. Howard, Godwin and Fournette. Brady gets to duel with Foles again and gets revenge as the Bucs' defense should rebound after being shellacked by Herbert.
Panthers over Falcons There are teams that are winless and still making their best effort to win the game... then there's the Falcons. After coming off a triple choke-fest, they looked absolutely deflated in Green Bay. Not much confidence in this pick, though, as it reeks of trap game. The Panthers are playing well with Teddy B as their offense has become more diversified without CMC. Because this is a division game, it could go either way and it'll be a close one.
Bills over Titans Not sure if this game will be postponed due to another Titans player with COVID. The Bills are the better all-around team with Allen playing lights out. They won't be able to cover Allen's ever-expanding weapons, led by Stefon Diggs downfield.
Chiefs over Raiders The Chiefs will be coming off a short week after playing the Patriots on MNF, but they are staying at home, which helps. Arrowhead has been a bad place for Carr in this rivalry, even though he's playing well this season. The Raiders' young CBs cannot cover the Chiefs' WRs downfield and their run defense is struggling too ahead of facing CEH. The Chiefs' pass rush and secondary will put the finishing touches on the rout.
Cardinals over Jets Arizona fell hard against Detroit and Carolina and will be eager to rebound in a plus matchup for Murray and everything in the offense. The Jets simply cannot stop the run or cover Hopkins. The Jets should be healthier around Flacco if Darnold is out, but Murray will keep the visitors flying higher.
Steelers over Eagles The Steelers got an unexpected bye and should be frustrated about not getting a chance to improve to 4-0. They will take it out defensively on Wentz with their fully loaded pass rush and secondary against the Eagles' line and receiver limitations. Pittsburgh is the much better Pennsylvania team.
Rams over Washington The Rams offense might be in for another grind with the run contained and Goff feeling some heat, but the defense will do plenty here with Donald getting in Haskins' face and Ramsey shutting down McClaurin.
Ravens over Bengals The Ravens love playing from ahead and turning on the snowball effect as their defense is better equipped to rush the passer. That should happen here at home against the Bengals' defense, who will have more bright offensive moments for Burrow and Mixon but not enough.
Texans over Jaguars The Texans' defense cannot stop the run or the pass. They are weak in the middle of the field and weak in CB coverage away from Roby. That's not good news facing Robinson and Chark. However, the Jaguars don't really have answers for either Watson, Johnson or Fuller. Houston has a lot of problems, but it finally gets in the win column back at home.
49ers over Dolphins The 49ers should get Garoppolo back in the lineup this week to support Kittle, Samuel and Aiyuk. They should also be able to run the ball much better than in the Eagles' matchup to set up favorable passing shots. Fitzpatrick has gone cold again for the Dolphins and him being the leading rusher for his team won't cut it. We could see some Tua action this week.
Browns over Colts Kind of an upset since the Colts are favored at home this week. They have the better overall defense, that's for sure, but the Browns have improved against the run under Woods. And the Colts will struggle to handle Hunt, Landry, OBJ and Hooper in the passing game.
Cowboys over Giants Dumpster fire of a divisional matchup here, which means it'll probably be epic. Dallas won't need to rely on Dak throwing 50-plus times and can actually go back to running Zeke to protect a lead by getting ahead with big plays in the passing game away from Bradberry. The Giants' offense will wake up a little more with Tate and Engram, but the Cowboys will win going away with a healthy second-half dose of the run.
Seahawks over Vikings The Vikings will be coming out firing with Cousins to Thielen and Jefferson, but also rely on Cook's running. Unfortunately, the Seahawks will have the same game plan with Carson to complement Wilson to Lockett and Metcalf. This game will mirror that last year's scoring bonanza in prime time.
Saints over Chargers Rookie Herbert faces another NFC South GOAT and the result will be the same. Herbert looks like the real deal and will make some great plays. But the Saints will have Kamara and Murray up and running well and there's a good chance Brees finally gets Thomas back this week to boost him in the passing game, along with the new connection to Sanders. The Saints' D will stop the run and get after Herbert well with a lead.

Byes: Lions, Packers

COVID Byes: Broncos, Patriots

Those are my predictions, let's hear yours. Keep it civil and fun. Best of luck!
