A simple ranking method I developed based on opponents' records

Each team's score is calculated by adding up the total number of wins of teams they have beaten, then subtracting the total number of losses of teams that they have lost to. For example:

  • Dallas has beaten the Giants (2 wins), St Louis (3 wins), Washington (2 wins), and Philadelphia (3 wins).
    2 3 2 3 = 10 total wins by teams they have beaten.

  • Dallas has lost to Kansas City (0 losses), San Diego (3 losses), Denver (1 loss), and Detroit (3 losses).
    0 3 1 3 = 7 losses by teams they have lost to.

  • 10 (total wins by teams they have beaten) - 7 (losses by teams they have lost to) = 3, so Dallas would get a score of 3 using this method.

This method is similar to an Opponent's Strength of Schedule method, but removes the effect of a team on its opponents' SOS, because a team only gains or loses points based on how their opponents have fared against other teams.

Here are the current scores of every team in the NFL, adjusted for number of games played:
