Thinking about rooting but I'm worried about encryption

I am thinking of rooting my nexus 5x but I have read that rooting causes hardware encryption to be disabled. How much of a difference does this make to the phone's security? Can you still use file-based encryption if you're rooted? Thanks for any info.
