Register fingerprint without enabling lock

Is it possible to register fingerprints in Android while also using either "none" or "swipe" as the screen lock? It appears that the registered fingerprints are removed if you disable the screen lock.
I would like to be able to use the fingerprint scanner for applications such as Nine and LastPass, but I don't want to lock the entire phone.
